The Barren County 4-H program hosted its annual kickoff roundup at the Barren County Extension Office on September 15. The event aims to encourage youth aged 9 to 18 to sign up for various clubs.
Paula Terry, the Barren County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development, explained that the program is part of the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service. It offers a wide range of activities, from cooking and Lego clubs to shooting sports and forestry.
The roundup event provided an opportunity for participants to meet club leaders and explore different activities available through the program. Terry noted that the program not only focuses on club activities but also includes events like communication workshops, judging activities, trips, and scholarships.
Even though the kickoff event is over, children can sign up for 4-H at anytime throughout the year online.
Parents are encouraged to get involved, and children can join as many clubs as they wish. The program also includes a clover bud club for younger children aged 5 to 8, who can participate in special activities at the county level.
