Teamsters Local 89 said a one-day picket at a Barren County film set has led to a new contract for crew drivers working on the movie “Twilight of the Dead.”
In a written statement, the Louisville-based union said it set up an area standards picket on Wednesday at a filming location in Bon Ayr after crew van drivers reported they were not receiving union benefits.
“Some of the workers inside approached the Teamsters about their working conditions,” said Stephen Piercey, Communications Director for Teamsters Local 89. He was on the picket line Wednesday.
The picket line went up around 1:30 p.m. and stayed in place until about 8:30 p.m., according to the union release.
“This is called an area standards picket, where we’re bringing attention to the fact that these workers are making less than they should for the work they’re doing,” Piercey said.
According to Local 89, the production company behind the project, which they identified as TotD LLC, agreed to a Teamsters contract for the film crew van drivers by the end of the day.
The union said the new agreement guarantees drivers 12 hours of pay each day and overtime pay after eight hours, daily meal allowances, a promise of at least eight hours of rest between shifts and holiday pay for the upcoming Labor Day holiday, including double time for anyone who works that day.
The union also said drivers will receive weekly benefit contribution payments of $235 added to each paycheck, as well as just-cause protections and other provisions.
Glasgow News 1 attempted to contact the production company for comment, but did not get a response.
Barren County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched twice Wednesday to the scene of the picket. They instructed the union picketers to stay out of the roadway, and briefly directed traffic.
A state law that took effect in 2026 prohibits people from sitting, standing or remaining stationary on portions of state-maintained rights of way that are not designated for pedestrian use. The law exempts assembling and picketing activities that are allowed under Kentucky law.
There were no arrests made in connection with the picketing.
