Joseph Casey Hogan, age 70, of Brownsville, departed this life at his residence on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. A lifelong Edmonson County native, Casey was born on October 7, 1955, to the late Woodrow Hogan and Lois Hogan Turner.
Casey, as he was known to those who loved him, spent many years working as a welder at Campbell Hausfeld. He had a natural knack for working on cars and was a true “shade tree” mechanic. He enjoyed tinkering with engines, figuring out how things worked and making repairs in his own way. He had a particular love for racing and could often be found enjoying NASCAR, figure-eight racing at Beech Bend, demolition derbies and drag racing. The roar of an engine and the excitement of the track were among the things that brought him joy.
Casey was a man who lived life in his own way. He was straightforward, independent and never tried to be someone he wasn’t. What you saw was what you got with Casey. He had his struggles and his imperfections, as we all do, but beneath it all was a man who was uniquely himself. Those who knew him best will remember his personality, his stories, his mechanical know-how, and the many memories—both good and challenging—that made him who he was. Casey was saved as a young boy at Pleasant Union United Baptist Church. While he may not have always spoken openly about the things that were deepest in his heart, those who knew him understood that there was an inward part of Casey that was settled and sure. That inward part was perfect.
He leaves to honor and cherish his memory— his daughters, Stacy Robertson (Brent) of Hardyville and Christy Ragle (Scott) of Munfordville; three grandchildren, Courtney Ragle, Amber Ragle and Blake Robertson; and his siblings, James Ellis Hogan (Alisa) of Philpot, Charlie Turner of Brownsville, Elvis Turner, Jr. of Indianapolis, Candy Grayson (Ed) of Oakland and Amy Elmore (Billy) of Brownsville, along with several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Joseph Shawn Hogan, grandson, Brett Robertson and siblings, Woodrow Billy Hogan and Lois Jean Lowe.
He will be laid to rest beside his parents and son at Pleasant Union United Baptist Church. Memorial contributions may be made to: Pleasant Union Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Jimmie Duvall.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 3, at Patton Funeral Home Brownsville Chapel. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
