A community pep rally is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 26, on the downtown Glasgow square to celebrate the Glasgow–Barren County high school football rivalry and bring families together.
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said this is the fourth year for the rally since the football game between Glasgow High School and Barren County High School was brought back, and she described the event as one of her favorite community traditions.
The pep rally is expected to run from about 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., giving families a three-hour window to attend. People who have midweek church services can come early, from about 4:30 to 6 p.m., and still make it to evening worship.
Bewley Byrd said the event is not just about football. Athletes from multiple sports, including soccer, golf and volleyball, are invited, along with cheerleaders, bands, dance teams and student section leaders from both schools.
Students, parents and community members are encouraged to wear school colors — burgundy and gold for Barren County and blue and white for Glasgow — and enjoy an evening on the square.
The pep rally will feature live interviews on WCLU radio, giving student athletes and school leaders a chance to share their excitement.
Organizers also plan a large group photo around 6 p.m. with football players from both schools and cheerleaders gathered together, followed by a proclamation from Bewley Byrd and Glasgow mayor Henry Royse.
The square will offer several attractions, including an inflatable obstacle course for younger children and a mechanical bull that Bewley Byrd said is always a crowd favorite..
Downtown businesses and students have decorated windows with school colors and artwork, adding to the Spirit Week atmosphere leading up to the game.
