Barren County has been awarded up to $775,000 in state reimbursement funding for the resurfacing of three county roadways.
Under the funding, the county is eligible for reimbursement of up to $271,000 for approximately 3.6 miles of resurfacing on Beckton-Rocky Hill Road, from KY 1297 to KY 255.
Hollow Road is eligible for up to $136,000 in reimbursement funding for approximately 2.0 miles of resurfacing between Old Salem Church Road and KY 2198.
The largest allocation, up to $368,000, will reimburse the county for resurfacing approximately 5.0 miles of Old Munfordville Road between Steeplechase Road and KY 70.
Barren County Fiscal Court unanimously passed a resolution on July 7 to direct the judge-executive to enter into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Department of Highways.
Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said Tuesday during the fiscal court meeting that the funds are strictly for the intended projects listed above.
The funds are part of House Joint Resolution 76 for state-supported rural and secondary road repairs that approved during the 2026 Regular Session of the Kentucky General Assembly and subsequently signed by Governor Andy Beshear on April 13. House Bill 502 and HJR 76 together appropriate over $70 million into the state’s Local Assistance Road Program across fiscal years 2026, 2027, and 2028.
According to the Memorandum of Agreement, county officials will submit the necessary documentation and verify the work conforms to the agreement before submitting it to KYTC’s Chief District Engineer in Bowling Green for reimbursement.
Byrd said that, with the loss of around $300,000 in road funding from KYTC, these reimbursement funds will help pay for paving on county roads.
“This is really where our paving money comes from now,” Byrd said. “We’re thankful for anything extra we can get because roads are the biggest issue we deal with.”
She also extended gratitude to Senator David Givens and Representative Steve Riley for supporting the legislation associated with the reimbursement funds.
