STAFF REPORT
Glasgow News 1
WCLU listeners will hear a new source for national and international news this weekend, moving from CBS News Radio to a new affiliation with ABC News Radio as CBS winds down its radio news division. The change follows CBS’s decision earlier this year to shut down its long-running radio news service, which has supplied top-of-the-hour updates and special reports to radio stations across the country for nearly a century.
For WCLU, the shift marks the end of a long partnership with CBS at the top of the hour and the beginning of a new relationship with ABC for national and international coverage. Under the new arrangement, ABC News Radio will provide WCLU with top-of-the-hour national newscasts, special reports and breaking news coverage. The network will also offer access to national correspondents and reporting on major events.
WCLU listeners will notice that the familiar CBS newscasts at the top of the hour are replaced by ABC’s reporting, but station leaders emphasize that the core of WCLU’s news service remains local.
“WCLU has always focused first on serving our local communities with trusted news and information,” General Manager Chris Houchens said. “As the national radio news landscape changes, our priority is making sure listeners continue to receive reliable, timely national coverage while keeping local news at the center of what we do.”
Local news, weather, sports and community coverage on WCLU will continue as before, with GlasgowNews1.com remaining the primary source for local reporting in Glasgow and Barren County.
