The Barren County Fiscal Court will begin formal work on its 2026-2027 spending plan during a special-called meeting Thursday morning in Glasgow.
According to the meeting notice, fiscal court members will gather at 9 a.m. in the court chambers at the county government building to consider the first reading of an ordinance establishing the annual budget and appropriations for the upcoming fiscal year.
The court’s regular meeting, which would have been Tuesday, was canceled because it fell on Election Day.
The special session’s agenda lists a series of regular items, including roll call, an invocation from Jeff Botts, the Pledge of Allegiance and approval of minutes from the May 5, 2026, meeting.
Reports from county officials are also scheduled, including monthly financial and fee reports for April 2026 from the county judge-executive, county attorney, county clerk and sheriff, with several of those reports noted as subject to audit.
Additional department and committee reports are expected from offices such as the coroner, jail, parks and recreation, road department and several standing committees.
Under new business, the court is set to consider payment of claims, transfers of funds, personnel actions and appointments to boards and councils, according to the agenda.
Members are also scheduled to adopt on second reading an ordinance related to a 2025-2026 budget amendment and to adopt on first reading Ordinance 704, which sets the county’s annual budget and appropriations for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
The upcoming fiscal year begins July 1, 2026, and a second reading of the budget ordinance will be required at a later date before the new plan takes effect.
The agenda also includes action on a 2026-2027 waste tire grant agreement and a memorandum of agreement with the Barren River Area Development District.
Invoices from multiple vendors, including Barren-Metcalfe E911, Cleary Construction, Thomas Oil and Fuel, Team First Sports, Greyrock Excavation, Asphalt Materials, U.S. Bank Trust and Scotty’s Contracting and Stone, are listed for approval.
The meeting will feature a presentation on BRIDGE KY and a scheduled speaker from NET Recovery before closing remarks.
The next regular fiscal court meeting is set for June 2, 2026.
