With Sheriff Kent Keen’s retirement, the race for the next Barren County sheriff was wide open. It was also decided by the Republican primary Tuesday.

Unofficially, Adam Bow will win that primary.

“I’m pretty excited, more humbled than anything,” Bow said Tuesday night while at the WCLU broadcast of the election.

Bow has worked with the sheriff’s office as a deputy and then a detective since 2011.

Partisan elections, such as those for judge-executive, sheriff’s office and jailer, are closed, meaning only those voters registered as a Republican or Democrat could vote in their respective partisan primaries. In Barren County, there were no local office Democratic party primaries.

There will still be a November general election, but there were no Democratic Party candidates who had filed to run for the sheriff’s office.

Bow said between Tuesday and when he officially takes office on January 1, there are things to learn from Keen.
