Barren County Schools is challenging community members to walk a mile in the shoes of hungry children.
Barren County Reads and Feeds is hosting a Walk a Mile in Their Shoes fundraiser event on Saturday, May 10, to not only raise money for the program, but to build awareness regarding childhood hunger.
CheyAnne Fant, director of nutrition services and after-school programs for Barren County Schools, said participants are encouraged to skip dinner the night before and the morning of the walk to experience what it’s like for a kid who has to wait until school hours to eat a meal.
The walk will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans Wall of Honor on the southwest corner of Glasgow’s downtown square, and participants will walk to First Christian Church off North Race Street. Preregistration begins at 7:30 a.m.
Proceeds from this event will help the school district provide food for students throughout the year. Nearly 500,000 meals were served to children last year.
