What started as a long-imagined story for Cave City’s Taylor Ferrell has turned the page into a new chapter of recognition, as One More Chapter Bookstore has been nominated for a Best in Kentucky award.
The annual awards, organized by the Kentucky Living Magazine, highlight standout businesses, destinations and experiences across the state, with winners determined by public vote.
The bookstore, which opened its doors in late 2024, was the result of Ferrell’s lifelong love of reading and months of careful planning. Now, about a year and a half later, that once-empty storefront has grown into a gathering place for Barren County readers.
“My family and I have all been readers,” Ferrell said. “I’d always thought about opening up a bookstore, but you know, you never think you’re going to do it.”
Since then, the shop has added its own story line to the community, hosting a variety of events centered around literature and connection.
Ferrell said the store’s book clubs have seen the most growth, to the point that a second group had to be added to keep up with demand. More recently, the bookstore has even begun offering mahjong classes — another way to bring people together beyond the shelves.
“Book clubs have grown exponentially,” she said. “We have two adult ones now that meet every month and with all the events, May is going to be busy.”
The Best in Kentucky nomination came as an unexpected plot twist.
Ferrell said she does not know who submitted the nomination, but is grateful all the same for the recognition of the business she has worked to build.
“It’s crazy, I really appreciate it,” she said. “I’m floored that I even got nominated.”
Now, she’s encouraging supporters to take part in the process.
Voting is open through May 15, with community members able to cast one vote per day.
For Ferrell, the nomination serves as an early mark of how far the store has come — from an idea sparked in an online book group to an established stop in Cave City’s downtown.
