April Hagan, a math teacher at Glasgow Middle School, was recognized with an “Inspiring Greatness” award during the Glasgow Independent Schools Board of Education meeting last month.
Glasgow Middle School Principal Justin Stinson said he has never seen a teacher motivate students as much as Hagan.
“She has this unique ability to bring out the very best in kids,” he said. “She can instill confidence in them.”
The principal said Hagan teaches a tough subject for students to enjoy.
“There’s a lot of people who don’t like math,” he said. “There’s a lot of people who feel like they struggle in math.
“But she gets kids to believe. She gets them to believe in themselves. She gets them to be confident.”
Stinson said Hagan also demonstrates great patience in her classroom.
“I have never, ever seen her give up on a kid,” he said. “She convinces them — more than they know themselves — that they can do it.
“When we think of people who are inspiring, we think about having hope and how powerful that is. That is Miss April Hagan.”
