Cave City Police plan checkpoints for May

May 1, 2026 | 3:25 PM

STAFF REPORT
Glasgow News 1

The Cave City Police Department will conduct traffic safety checkpoints throughout the month of May, targeting impaired driving and other common roadway violations.

According to a public notice, checkpoints will run from May 1 through May 31 during evening and early morning hours, typically between 7 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Officers will be focused on enforcing laws related to driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, as well as licensing and registration compliance. Seat belt use, child restraint violations and vehicle equipment issues will also be subject to enforcement during the stops.

The department has identified several approved checkpoint locations across the city and surrounding areas, including stretches of Mammoth Cave Street and Mammoth Cave Road, intersections such as Old Lexington Road and Cemetery Road, and corridors along North Dixie Highway and Louisville Road. Areas near the I-65 interchange and along Happy Valley Road are also included in the enforcement plan.

The checkpoints are part of an ongoing effort to improve roadway safety and reduce preventable crashes by increasing visibility and enforcement during high-risk hours, the police department stated in the public notice.
