Barren County exploded for seven runs in the fifth inning Thursday night en route to an 11-0 rout of Green County.
The Trojanettes led 4-0 headed into the fifth. Lily Elmore led off the inning with a single, then moved to second on a single by Josey Moore. Norah Shirley followed with a single that scored Elmore. Moore ended up scoring on a throwing error, and Shirley moved to third on the same error.
Shea Bogue drove in Shirley with a single. Sarah Price entered to run for Bogue. Khloe Westmoreland followed and hit a ground ball that was misplayed, which let her reach first base safely. Miley Kaumanns entered to run for Westmoreland, and Barren had runners at first and second.
Hadley Elkins drove in both Price and Kaumanns with a double. Elkins moved to third on a passed ball before Adley Cunningham drove her in with a single. Jaycee Chambers entered to run for Cunningham before Audrey Jones drew a walk. Elmore returned to the plate, hit a single, and loaded the bases.
During Moore’s second at-bat of the inning, Chambers scored from third on a passed ball to set the Trojanettes ahead, 11-0.
In the bottom of the fifth, Bogue forced a ground out, a line out and struck out a batter to seal the run-rule win.
Bogue allowed two hits, struck out four and walked none in five innings in the circle.
Elmore went 4-for-4 at the plate, while Shirley posted three hits, and Elkins and Moore each had two hits.
