A Glasgow man charged with murder and first-degree fetal homicide made a preliminary court appearance Thursday via video. He did not speak during the court proceeding.

Brandon Lee Bond is charged in the shooting death of Ava Woodcock and her unborn child. She was shot off Cleveland Avenue on April 6, and died April 7 at the University of Louisville Hospital. Bond, 25, of Glasgow, allegedly shot Woodcock as she was in a car along Cleveland Avenue.

Glasgow Police Department Det. Brian Starnes testified during the preliminary hearing Thursday before District Judge Gabe Pendleton. He recounted the events of the day of the shooting as documented by the police department.

Starnes then answered a series of questions from Bond’s defense attorney. After which, the defense agreed that the probable cause standard was met for the case to be forwarded to a grand jury.

“Mr. Bond, you do not have another hearing in this case until the grand jury decides what to do,” Pendleton said.

Bond is also charged with first-degree fleeing police.

One side of the public gallery was nearly filled with members of Woodcock’s family during the proceeding. Some were holding signs with a graphic showing Woodcock holding her unborn child while surrounded by clouds. After the judge’s ruling, they filed into the hallway outside the courtroom where Commonwealth’s Attorney John Gardner spoke with them.
