Barren County rallied late against Greenwood, but the Lady Gators pulled off the 6-5 win on the Trojanettes’ home diamond Tuesday night.
Greenwood built a 5-1 lead headed into the bottom of the sixth inning. That’s where Barren made its comeback.
Addie Wheeler led off with a single. Khloe Westmoreland followed with a single to put runners at first and second. Hadley Elkins drove in Wheeler with a double and Harlee Walker — running for Westmoreland — moved to third.
After a pair of strike outs, Lily Elmore drove in Walker and Elkins with a double to get Barren to within a run.
Josey Moore followed with a walk, then, during Norah Shirley’s at-bat, Elmore moved third on a passed ball, and later scored to tie the game 5-5.
The Trojanettes had a chance to take a lead in the game after that. Shea Bogue drew a walk, which loaded the bases. Wheeler returned to the plate and hit into a fielder’s choice. The out was recorded before Moore could cross home plate for the go-ahead run.
In the top of the seventh, Greenwood scored what proved to be the winning run, and Barren could not respond.
The loss dropped the Trojanettes to 5-4 overall.
Bogue pitched the distance. She allowed 14 hits, struck out six and walked one.
Elmore led at the plate with a pair of hits, including the double, while Elkins, Moore, Shirley, Wheeler, Westmoreland, Elkins and Adley Cunningham each had a hit.
Barren returns to action Thursday at Green County at 5:30 p.m.
