Glasgow News 1

A routine traffic stop turned into a drug trafficking arrest after Glasgow police officers allegedly found methamphetamine and fentanyl pills hidden under a vehicle on Burkesville Road.

Officer Micah Janes conducted the stop on Wednesday, April 8, 2026, after confirming the vehicle registration plate was expired, according to a police department press release. Janes made contact with the driver, who was identified by police as Jessie Ray Shirley of Glasgow.

K-9 Officer Saltsman then deployed K-9 Chaos to conduct a sniff of the vehicle. According to the department, K-9 Chaos gave a positive alert, leading officers to conduct a probable cause search of the vehicle. During that search, officers allegedly found methamphetamine, fentanyl pills, two syringes and Suboxone in a magnetic box attached under the vehicle, according to the police report.

Shirley was arrested and charged with first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense, methamphetamine; trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense, fentanyl; third-degree possession of a controlled substance, drug unspecified; and possession of drug paraphernalia. In addition to the drug counts, Shirley is also charged with failure of owner to maintain required insurance, first offense; failure to produce an insurance card; careless driving; no registration plates; and no registration receipt.

Shirley has an initial court appearance Monday, April 13, according to the Barren County Detention Center website. His bond is listed at $25,000.

Janes made the arrest with assistance from K-9 Officer Saltsman, K-9 Chaos and Sgt. Jeff Childress.
