The chief executive officer of the United States’ largest public utility company will retire July 1.

The Tennessee Valley Authority, which is the power supplier for the Glasgow Electric Plant Board, is currently helmed by Don Moul, who has been the authority’s fourth CEO since April 9, 2025. He informed the board of directors his retirement decision on April 3, according to outside reporting.

“The Board appreciates Don’s service to TVA, its employees and the people of the Tennessee Valley region,” Director Mitch Graves said. Under his leadership, TVA has had strong operational and financial performance delivering reliable, affordable, American energy that helps communities across our seven states prosper.”

Knoxville attorney and board member Jeff Hagood expressed optimism that Moul’s replacement will be named soon. He said that he expects the board to “move in short order to fill this role in a very positive manner,” according to outside reporting.

Moul’s decision to retire comes after U.S. President Donald Trump publicly criticized him and vowed to make his life “miserable.” Although the decision of a new CEO is up to the board members, Trump has appointed four of the six men who make the decision — Hagood was one such appointee.

Had Moul stayed with the authority, he, and other executives, would see a substantial pay decrease. In 2025, Moul drew roughly $6 million in direct compensation, according to outside reporting, but Trump is pressing the authority’s board to cut CEO’s pay through a $500,000 compensation ceiling.

Moul replaced Jeff Lyash as chief executive officer.
