Former Barren County standout Katie Murphy drove in two runs in WKU softball’s 5-1 win over Lipscomb on Tuesday.
The Lady Toppers’ sophomore third base came to the plate in the bottom of the first inning with the bases loaded. Western Kentucky led off its half of the inning with back-to-back walks by Kendle White and Jenna Blanton. While Annie White reached on a fielder’s choice and Kendle White was thrown out at third, a third walk from Lauren Satterly loaded the bases.
Murphy capitalized on the bases loaded with a single up the middle to bring in Blanton and a defensive miscue by the Bisons’ center fielder allowed Annie White to score for the second run of the inning. The Lady Toppers added two more runs in the bottom of the second and another in the sixth inning.
Murphy led the team with her two RBIs. WKU improved to 28-8 with the win.
