A Glasgow High School student will represent the South Central Kentucky area on a national youth program in Washington, D.C.

South Central Rural Telecommunications Cooperative, working with the Foundation for Rural Service, named Glasgow High School student Trace Brooking as its 2026 winner of the FRS Youth Tour. The program gathers more than 100 students from rural communities across the country for a multi-day visit to the nation’s capital.

Over four days in June, Brooking and other participants are scheduled to explore Washington, D.C., hear from experts at the Federal Communications Commission and members of Congress, and discuss ways to improve rural communities.

The tour emphasizes leadership development while giving students a firsthand look at how telecommunications policy and government decisions affect rural areas, according to a SCRTC press release. The itinerary also includes visits to major historic sites, including the Lincoln Memorial, the U.S. Capitol, Mount Vernon and Arlington National Cemetery.

Students are expected to take part in forums and discussions that highlight how broadband access can shape education, business and quality of life in rural regions.

Brooking was selected for the honor based on his essay titled “The Impact of Broadband Internet on Rural Communities.”
