A Glasgow man has been arrested for stealing a Glasgow school bus.

Eighteen-year-old Taysean Barlow was arrested on Saturday at his residence on Coral Hill Road after police located a stolen Glasgow High School bus behind a Dollar General on Edmonton Road, according to a department press release and Barlow’s uniform citation.

Barlow is charged with the bus theft, second-degree criminal mischief, operating on a suspended or revoked license, and unlawful possession of a weapon on school property, which stems from his possession of a 9mm handgun when he entered the bus, according to his citation. Barlow allegedly told police the gun was given to him by his grandfather.

He is lodged in the Barren County Detention Center on a $25,000 cash bond.

Glasgow Independent Schools Superintendent pulled the GPS information and determined that the bus was started at 4:34 a.m. and turned left out of the high school parking lot onto Columbia Avenue, according to the citation. The bus went out to Coral Hill Road, made a stop — in which Barlow talks to someone out of surveillance camera view — turned around and headed to the store.

The bus was parked at 5:27 a.m., according to the citation.

Brandi Craine, Barlow’s mother, told police she had made Barlow return the bus after he had shown up at their house with it, according to the citation.

At the jail, Barlow allegedly told police he was hanging out with his friends when “things got a little crazy” and he left. On his way home, he saw the bus and “wanted to know if he could get inside,” the citation stated.

“Once he was inside the bus, Barlow stated he saw the keys and decided to take the bus as a means to get home because he did not want to walk,” the citation stated.
