A regional licensing office is one step closer to coming to Barren County.

The Kentucky Legislature recently sent a $4.6 billion biennial road plan and a $7 billion transportation operating budget to Governor Andy Beshear, which includes new regional licensing offices in Barren, Bullitt and Oldham counties. The transportation cabinet’s proposed budget can be viewed here.

“We are so thankful that our concerns were heard; that the public’s concerns were heard,” Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd said. “I keep preaching that Barren County is a regional hub for multiple things…this would save [people] a trip because they’re already coming here for other things.”

“We’re very excited,” she added.

Shawn McPherson, the representative from neighboring Kentucky District 22, has also been pushing for a Barren County regional licensing office, Byrd said.

“The reason he pushed it was [because] his constituents from Allen County are coming to Barren County regularly,” Byrd said.

Previously, Byrd told Glasgow News 1 that a permanent office planned for the old health department building on West Washington Street was in the works. On multiple occasions, Barren County magistrates have voiced their support for an office with Marty Kinslow saying that the public would do cartwheels if it came to the county and that it would be an “economic boon.”
