The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet continues to work on Happy Valley Road.

This is a continuation of the work begun by the cabinet on Oct. 6 that is planned to enhance “safety and efficiency along a 9-mile section” of Happy Valley Road — also known as Ky. 90 — between the Veterans Outer Loop in Glasgow and Sanders Street in Cave City, according to the cabinet’s recent traffic impact report.

“The project adds alternating passing lanes and new turn lanes at different points along the corridor” the cabinet stated. “Drainage improvement work, guardrail work, shoulder improvements, passing lane extensions and vegetation trimming are also included in spots along the route.”

The project is expected to be completed in the fall 2026 and a $6.5 million infrastructure investment made by the cabinet, according to prior Glasgow News 1 reporting. Drivers should be prepared to see crews and construction equipment along the route this week.

Key Facts

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s full traffic impact report is below:

Interstate 165

  • A project to completely restore and preserve the I-165 bridges over the Green River (mile point 32.6) in Butler County continues. Motorists have switched onto the new traffic pattern. The northbound motorists have been switched to the southbound side. The speed limit has been lowered to 55 mph. Motorists should use caution. The project is expected to last until fall of 2026.

Metcalfe County

  • U.S. 68 (from near KY 729 to KY 745) – A project to improve safety and mobility along a section of U.S. 68 in Green and Metcalfe counties has started. The project will realign U.S. 68 from near KY 729 in Green County to KY 745 in Metcalfe County. The 1.2 miles of new alignment will feature 11-foot travel lanes with 4-foot paved shoulders. The new alignment is designed to reduce curvature and grade variations and will include construction of a new bridge over Caney Fork Creek. Motorists should use caution in this area.
  • US 68 (at the intersection with KY 70) – An intersection safety improvement project is expected to begin on U.S. 68 in Metcalfe County. The intersection of U.S. 68 and KY 70 will be reconstructed to a new alignment just to the east of the current intersection. Motorists should use caution in this area.

 Simpson County

  • KY 585 (at the intersection with KY 73) – The intersection of KY 585 and KY 73 was converted to an all-way stop to improve safety at the intersection. Motorists should use caution and expect an adjustment period to get used to the new configuration.

 Todd County

  • U.S. 79 (from the Tennessee State line to the 3-mile marker) – A project to widen U.S. 79 in Todd County from the Tennessee State line to mile marker 3 continues. Motorists should expect some lane closures and construction vehicles entering the roadway.

Warren County

  • U.S. 31-W (mile points 20.9 to 22.5) – The next phase of U.S. 31-W widening in northern Warren County continues. The project widens U.S. 31-W from U.S. 68 to Mizpah Road. Traffic has been switched onto the new section of road, but it is two-one traffic for now. There is one travel lane in each direction. Crews will begin working on the other side of the road.
  • KY 185 – Two improvement projects on KY 185 have started. The bulk of the work is being done away from the current roadway with little traffic impact.  The realignment section of KY 185 will create a new road to the east of the current KY 185, starting near Runner Road and tying back into the current KY 185 just south of KY 1320 (Penns Chapel Road).  The HSIP section of the project is from KY 1320 to near Jack Simmons Road, 1.26 miles in length. Drainage improvements and ditching will be a part of this project.
  • U.S. 31-W (From KY 234 to Park Street) – A project to widen the U.S. 31-W Bypass to five lanes from KY 234 to Park Street in northern Bowling Green has started. A long-term construction zone has been setup narrowing traffic to one lane in each direction with a center turn lane. This is for the construction zone only. The project is expected to be completed sometime in 2027. Delays and traffic queues should be expected.
