John Edmond “J.E.” Petett, Tompkinsville

John Edmond “J.E.” Petett, 88, of  Tompkinsville, KY, passed away Friday, March 20th, at Signature Health Care of Monroe County.

J.E. was born at his home in Tompkinsville, KY, on November 23, 1937, a son of the late Maggie (Geralds) and Joe Curtis Petett.

On April 29, 1960, he married Martha Cassady in Springfield, TN.

After J.E. graduated from high school, he attended Western Kentucky University, Lindsey Wilson College, and Campbellsville University. He worked as the city manager for the city of Tompkinsville for many years. J.E. enjoyed telling stories about ball games, fishing, gardening, going to ballgames, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

J.E. is survived by his wife of nearly 66 years, Martha Petett, of Tompkinsville, KY;  two daughters, Sandy England and husband, Jake, of Tompkinsville, KY;  Debbie Dixon and husband, Scott, of Vicksburg, MS; three sons Joe Petett, and wife, Anita, of Beaumont, KY; John Petett, and wife, Shell, of Tompkinsville, KY;  David Petett, and wife, Ashlee, of Campbellsville, KY; son-in-law, Timmy Gillenwater, of Tompkinsville, KY; 17 grandchildren, Hillary Lee (Randy), Houston Gillenwater (Lindsey), Kelsey Harlan (Grayson), Kaley Dillard (Tyler), Jesse England, Jeremy England (Jaime), Blakely Hollinsworth (Logan), Chance England (Holli), Cassady Wilson, Cahill Wilson (LeeAnn), Curtis Petett, Jameson Petett, Ally Petett,  Braxton Walker, Rylee Petett, Rowan Petett and Remi Petett, and 23 great grandchildren.

Other than his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Dana Gillenwater; five brothers, Frank, Roy, Joe, James, and Cecil Petett; four sisters, Mildred Owens, Margie Smith, Lucy Canter, and Dane McKinney; grandson, Wesley England; and two great-grandchildren, Jaeley Hollinsworth and Nash Harlan.

Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23rd at Yokley Trible Funeral Home in Tompkinsville, KY, with burial to follow at Old Mt. Herman Cemetery.

Visitation will be held Sunday, 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., and Monday, 7:00 a.m. until service time at 2:00 p.m. at Yokley Trible Funeral Home.
