RECAP: Scotties stop Raiders, 10-4

Glasgow opened its baseball season with a 10-4 win over Hart County on Wednesday. The victory on Sam Royse Field was also a 2A Sectional showdown.

Glasgow took the lead for good in the bottom of the first inning. Hudson Gumm led off and reached base on a fielding error. He moved to second and third on a throwing error while Steven Garrett was at bat. Garrett drove in Gumm with a fly out to center field.

Starting pitcher Carter Hodges followed and nailed a double. Cooper Hatton entered to run for Hodges, and he later scored on Haynes’ first single of the game. Peyton Lemily followed with a single, but Haynes was thrown out at home. Lemily eventually scored on a double by Thomas Glass.

In the second inning, Gumm reached base on a single. He scored on single by Garrett.

The Scotties added two more runs in the third to take a 6-0 lead.

Glass led off with a single, then moved to second on a wild pitch. JP Pitcock pushed him to third on a single. Pitcock stole second, then Garret Shields drove them both in with a single to right field.

The Raiders plated two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Scotties responded with four in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Garrett reached base on an error. Haynes, who had reached base on a walk, scored. Hodges followed and drove in Gumm with a single. Gumm had reached base on a walk. Hodges and Garrett both scored on a single by Haynes.

Hodges opened on the mound for Glasgow. He struck out four, allowed no hits and walked three in three innings. Lemily followed and struck out four, walked three and allowed two hits. Gumm closed the game and allowed three hits.

Hodges also had three hits, including two doubles. Haynes had three hits and drove in three runs. Glass and Pitcock each posted two hits, while Garrett, Gumm and Lemily each had a hit.

Glasgow returns to action today against Green County at American Legion Park in Greensburg at 5:30 pm
