Phyllis McKinney, nutrition service manager at Barren County Middle School, was honored as the classified employee of the month at the recent Barren County Schools Board of Education meeting.
Principal Joey Bunch said McKinney was being recognized for her teamwork.
“She is one that’s behind the scenes,” he said. “She does a lot of things that people don’t realize that she does for our school.”
McKinney has been “a rock in this school for many years,” the principal said.
“She is doing a wonderful job of leading our cafeteria and feeding almost 700 kids a day,” he said. “That is phenomenal.”
And her greatness goes beyond the lunchroom.
“Everybody knows that Ms. Phyllis has their back, and she’s there to support our students,” Bunch said. “This lady right here is very vital to our success every day.
“And it’s not just during lunch or breakfast, but it’s throughout the day when she sees her kids, checks on her kids. She’s checking on her staff. She’s willing to step in and help us with anything and needs that we have.”
