Barren County Schools is celebrating two new state student leaders following this year’s Kentucky Beta State Conventions.
In addition to the awards received by the students, middle schooler Lily Key and high school student Adeline Coleman were elected as the Kentucky Junior Beta and the Kentucky Bata president, respectively.
Key said she decided to run for office because she wanted to show others that anyone can be a leader, no matter who they are, and that students can lead with personality, adding that she believes when everyone works together, great things happen.
“It is just something special to watch a student who shines brightly in the building walk onto that stage in front of 4,000 Beta members, sponsors, parents, and volunteers, and give it their all,” said BCMS Beta sponsor Tyler Hensley. “Seeing Lily campaign throughout the convention, making new connections, and meeting new people, showed what a great future she has.”
Coleman said her campaign was centered around the theme “Sweet Adeline,” with the slogan, “Life is sweeter when you vote Sweet Adeline” and that she wants to make Beta a place where every member feels seen, supported and excited to be involved.
BCHS Beta sponsor Stephanie Jordan said Coleman is the kind of leader every organization hopes for.
“She is a dedicated and hardworking officer in our Beta Club, often taking the initiative to organize and prepare for meetings on her own — and always without complaint. What truly sets Adeline apart is how deeply she cares for others; she leads with enthusiasm, heart, and a genuine love for people that makes it easy for everyone around her to support and believe in her. I could not be more proud of her accomplishments, and we are all excited to support her as she sets her sights on becoming National Beta President this summer.”
