It’s National Agriculture Week and UK Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources Chris Schalk joined Todd Steenbergen on WCLU to share practical ways to celebrate farmers and promote ag, which is a major employer in Barren County.
Chris and Todd talked about ideas highlighted by the National FFA, including delivering field meals to farmers during busy seasons, promoting agriculture on social media and contacting legislators about ag funding, property taxes and settlement dollars.
Schalk also noted local activities like farm-to-table meals, farm-to-school efforts, FFA contests and classroom partnerships that bring calves and other animals to kids who are not from farm families. Schalk said events like farm toy show coming up Friday and Saturday at Glasgow High School, farm tours and visits to local goat farms help young people connect with their agricultural heritage and see future opportunities in farming.
