A Glasgow family is safe after a weekend house fire heavily damaged part of their home, but caused no injuries to people.
The Glasgow Fire Department was dispatched at 8:41 p.m. Saturday to a structure fire at 138 Davis St., where crews arrived to find smoke and flames showing through a side window on the back corner of the residence.
Firefighters deployed two inch-and-three-quarter hand lines and advanced into the home, locating the main body of fire in a rear bedroom, according to a department press release. The fire was quickly extinguished and no additional areas of active fire were found. Crews then used a fan to clear heat and smoke from the house.
One cat died from smoke, but the resident was able to get the rest of her animals out of the home. No other injuries were reported.
The fire started around a dresser in the bedroom, but the exact cause remains undetermined at this time, the release stated. The bedroom sustained moderate to heavy fire and water damage, and there was significant smoke damage throughout the rest of the house.
Fire department units remained on scene for about two hours. Barren-Metcalfe EMS and the Glasgow Police Department also assisted.
