Shanti Niketan Hospice Home’s capital campaign has reached its $3.5 million goal, marking a major milestone for hospice care in south central Kentucky.
The completion of the campaign was announced during a special ceremony Monday, March 9 celebrating the facility’s five-year anniversary in Glasgow. The campaign to build the hospice home, titled Love Makes This House a Home, was launched in 2015 with the vision of creating a residential hospice facility to serve families throughout the region, according to the T.J. Community Mission Foundation.
The $3.5 million project was funded through a combination of community donations and a $2 million U.S. Department of Agriculture loan secured through a partnership with Farmers RECC, which allowed construction to begin during the winter of 2019–2020. The hospice home opened in 2021 and has since provided care and comfort to more than 275 patients and their families.
T.J. Regional Health Chief Executive Officer Neil Thornbury said the home reflects what he called the very best of compassionate health care, and that families in the region have experienced end-of-life care in a setting that emphasizes dignity, comfort and the presence of loved ones.
During the anniversary event, T.J. Community Mission Foundation Executive Director Randy Burns announced that the final commitments needed to retire the campaign’s remaining debt had been secured.
Burns said the most recent gift commitment of $70,245, made within the last two weeks, means the campaign to build Shanti Niketan Hospice Home is now complete. He added that the home stands as a testament to the compassion and generosity of the entire community.
Over the course of the campaign, 1,290 individuals, families, businesses and employees of T.J. Regional Health contributed through gifts of all sizes. Support came through memorial contributions, leadership-level gifts and ongoing giving by hospital employees.
Developed through a partnership between T.J. Community Mission Foundation and T.J. Regional Health, Shanti Niketan Hospice Home offers a peaceful, home-like setting for specialized end-of-life care supported by an experienced hospice team. The name Shanti Niketan, derived from Sanskrit, means “a place of peace.”
Burns said the completion of the capital campaign is not the end of their work. The foundation is now focused on building an endowment to support the hospice home’s long-term sustainability and to provide patient assistance for families in need.
