Two first half runs lifted Barren County over Monroe County, 45-25, and into the championship game of the Girls Fourth Region Tournament on Saturday.

The Trojanettes opened the game Friday night on a 13-0 run. The Lady Falcons responded to that one with a 7-0 run that left Barren up 13-7 at the end of the first period.

“I thought we got off to a really good start,” Barren County coach Piper Lindsey said in her post game interview. “I thought we were really good defensively.”

The Trojanettes held the Lady Falcons to 28.6 percent shooting in the first period, and 30 percent in the second. Meanwhile, they sot 62.5 percent in the first and 50 percent in the second.

Monroe got to within five points when Cloey Hawkins hit a layup and was fouled. She missed the free throw, and Barren regained control of the game from there.

Addy Slagle, who was on fire in the first half, stole a pass a minute later, and scored in transition. That sparked an 11-0 run for the Trojanettes. They led 30-14 at halftime. Slagle scored 13 of her team’s 30 in the first half.

“I think we are doing a good job sharing the basketball. They take away one player and another one will step up,” Lindsey said. “Addy’s been in a bit of a slump. I was proud of her for attacking the rim.”

The scoring for both teams dropped in the second half as Barren posted a 15-11 advantage.

“I thought we had some really, really good looks [in the second] half, they just weren’t going in,” Lindsey said.
