Jerrick Martin wins indoor state long jump; leads Glasgow at 1A meet

Jerrick Martin added to his track and field state titles Tuesday. The Glasgow senior won the KHSAA Class 1A Indoor State Championships meet long jump with a distance of 21-feet, 6.5-inches.

Martin won the outdoor state long jump title last spring with a leap of 22-feet, 9.5-inches. He is also a member of the Glasgow boys’ basketball team that is playing Wednesday night in the Boys Fourth Region Tournament at Diddle Arena. The Scotties tip against Monroe County at about 8 p.m.

On Tuesday, Martin also finished 15th in the 55 meter dash with a time of 6.88 seconds.

Teammate Jayden Estes was second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.29 seconds, and he was third in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.61 seconds.

Glasgow also had several athletes compete in the Class 1A Girls Indoor State Championships.

Anniston Young led the way with seventh in the 55 meter dash with a time of 7.79. She was also 18th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:09.06.

Young teamed with Danica Stephens, Kaeauna Brown and Taylor Wilson to finish fourth in the 4×200 relay with a time of 1:53.73.

Olivia Wood placed eighth in the long jump with a leap of 14-feet, 11.5-inches.

Paeton Taylor was 15th in the shot put with a toss of 26-feet, 7.75-inches.

Stephens was also 19th in both the 200 meter dash and the 400 meter dash — 28.87 seconds and 1:10.37, respectively.

Caralee Gentry finished 22nd in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 11.25 seconds.

The outdoor track season begins later this month.
