STAFF REPORT
Glasgow News 1
Kentucky State Police Post 3 is reminding drivers that traffic safety checkpoints will be in place across southcentral Kentucky during March.
The effort is part of a broader push to keep motorists safe on public roadways and to deter violations of state traffic laws. The checkpoints are intended to provide a high visibility public safety presence, according to the state police. Troopers at these locations will focus on identifying operator impairment, checking for vehicle equipment deficiencies, confirming proper registration and insurance, and verifying that drivers hold valid licenses. Other violations of law or public safety issues that arise at the checkpoints will also be addressed.
Concentrating enforcement at these locations allows Post 3 to periodically focus its resources on known problem areas, state police stated. The goal, according to the agency, is to ultimately increase the safety of citizens within the Commonwealth by reducing crashes and removing unsafe vehicles and drivers from the road.
Post 3 serves Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Simpson and Warren counties.
Planned checkpoint locations for March for Barren County include: U.S. 31W at the Edmonson County line; U.S. 31W at the Hart County line; U.S. 31W and KY 255; U.S. 31E and Jack Turner Road; U.S. 68 and KY 255 in Bon Ayr; KY 70 and KY 314; KY 70 and KY 255; KY 70 and KY 740 in Hiseville; KY 1846 and Old Lexington Road; KY 249 a half mile south of the Glasgow city limits; and KY 249 at the Monroe County line. State police are encouraging drivers in the region to be aware of the checkpoints, make sure their vehicles are in good working order and properly documented, and never drive impaired.
