Barren County Board of Education Chair Shelly Groce was named as the 2026 Board Member of the Year by the Kentucky School Boards Association.
Groce, who has been a board member since 2013, received this award during the annual Kentucky School Boards Association Conference in Louisville on Feb. 20. The annual award honors “exemplary service and recognizes the critical role school boards play in advancing public education across the Commonwealth,” according to a Barren County Schools press release.
“Groce has been a consistent advocate for students, staff, and public schools,” the release stated. “During her tenure, the district has expanded career pathways, strengthened workforce development partnerships, increased compensation for certified and classified staff, and invested in innovative facilities and programming designed to prepare students to be life-ready.”
“Shelly leads with integrity, purpose, and a deep commitment to public education,” added Superintendent Amy Irwin. “Her advocacy and leadership have had a lasting impact on our students, staff, and community.”
