Grant applications, Black History Month presentation on Glasgow council’s agenda

The Glasgow City City Council will meet for its second regular session this month on Monday, Feb. 23 at 6 p.m. inside council chambers at the Luska J. Twyman Municipal Building.

Following the pledge, invocation and roll call, council members will consider approval of the evening’s agenda as well as the minutes from the Feb. 9 meeting.

Two presentations headline the meeting. Maureen Carpenter, CEO of Barren Inc., is scheduled to address the council. As well as a presentation recognizing Black History Month is also listed on the agenda.

There is no old business slated for discussion.

Under new business, the council will consider two resolutions authorizing April Russell, city administrator and grant writer, to apply for grant funding through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s Office of Highway Safety.

The council will also consider a resolution that would seek funding for Glasgow Police Department’s overtime pay related to highway safety efforts, as well as support for the Lifesavers Conference expenses and fuel costs. The second resolution would apply for non-law enforcement highway safety funding to support the Child Safety Seat Program, along with related travel and training for the police department.

For council notification purposes, several executive orders have also been signed. These include updates to the Glasgow Police Department’s standard operating procedures covering firearms; division and section responsibilities; cellular telephone policy; sick days; and vacation requests. An additional executive order relates to the job description for the position of city clerk.

The meeting is open to the public.
