Barren County knocked off the Taylor County on Tuesday, 71-65. It was a battle of the top teams in the Fourth and Fifth regions, respectively.
Against the No. 7 team in the state, the Trojanettes edged ahead 18-15 in the first quarter. They added a 15-14 edge in the second period and led 33-29 at halftime. After three, their lead was up to six points, 50-44.
The teams combined to scored 22 points in the final two minutes. The Lady Cardinals closed to within four points, 69-65, with seven seconds to go, but Addy Slagle hit a pair of free throws to ice the contest.
Shelby Byrd led Barren with 21 points, while Mahalia Burton added 13, and Slagle finished with 11.
