Penny Arlene Huffman (Wooten), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2026, at the TJ Samson Community Hospital in Glasgow, Kentucky. She was born on December 19, 1961, in Glasgow to Barbara Ann (Furlong) Wooten and the late Thurman Hearold Wooten.
Penny lived most of her life in the Beckton area, attending Red Cross Elementary School and Park City Middle School while also helping out on her parents’ farm. She liked horses, Dukes of Hazzard, creating art, and supporting her beloved Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers. Penny graduated from Barren County High School in 1979 and briefly attended WKU.
Penny met her husband, David Huffman, through a mutual friend in 1980, and the couple married on May 22, 1981, at Old Zion Methodist Church in Beckton. Penny worked in retail and food service until 1995, when she found her true calling. She dedicated the remainder of her career to the education and wellbeing of children as the Western Barren County Family Resource Coordinator at Red Cross Elementary and Park City Elementary Schools until her retirement in 2022. Her impact on the lives of countless students and families in Barren County is a testament to her compassion and commitment to her community.
Outside her professional life, Penny was a devout Christian who loved attending church and sharing the Gospel. She was also known for her love of thrift shopping and watching Hallmark movies, though her favorite pastime was spending time with her family.
Penny is survived by her husband of 44 years, David Huffman. Together, they nurtured a loving family that includes their son, David Brent Huffman, and his partner, Sabrina, as well as their daughter, Lindsay Renee Carver, and her husband, Chris. Penny also took immense pride in being a grandmother to Luke, Leo, Cruz, and Camila Huffman. She is also survived by her mother, Barbara Wooten, and her brother, Ricky Wooten, and his wife, Michele.
Penny was preceded in death by her father, Thurman Wooten.
The funeral service for Mrs. Huffman will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 20th, at A.F. Crow & Son Funeral Home with burial in the Glasgow Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will begin Thursday, February 19th, at 9:00 AM until 8:00 PM and Friday morning until time for the service at the funeral home.
