A Glasgow man is facing a felony assault charge after Barren County deputies say a fight earlier this month left another man with multiple facial fractures and a broken jaw.
Thirty-four-year-old Marcus Edison was arrested by Barren County Sheriff’s deputies and charged with second-degree assault stemming from an assault that took place on Feb. 8 when deputy Samuel Morgan went to a residence on Old Bowling Green Road in reference to a physical fight with a firearm, according to a uniform citation.
When he got there, Morgan reported making contact with Dustin Waid, who appeared to have a severe injury to the left side of his face, including a swollen eye and dried blood on his lip, according to the citation.
In statements to deputies, Waid and his brother-in-law, Leon Orange, said the incident began as a dispute with Edison over a vehicle Waid was supposed to be working on at his shop. They said that prior to the incident at the home, the men had been drinking together when Edison became upset and began hitting both Waid and Orange. Orange told investigators he ran from the residence until Waid picked him up in a vehicle.
Waid said that after he returned home, Edison arrived a few minutes later. Waid told deputies he answered the door holding an AR-15 rifle but said he did not point the firearm at Edison. Orange said he ran out the back door and called 911.
Waid has home surveillance video showing Edison walking onto the porch and engaging in a verbal argument that escalates into a physical confrontation, according to the citation. In the video, Edison appears to draw back his right hand and strike Waid.
Emergency medical personnel from Barren Metcalfe EMS were called to evaluate Waid at the scene. He was then taken to T.J. Samson Community Hospital, where he was advised he had several facial fractures and his jaw broken in four places. Waid later underwent surgery to repair his jaw and, as of Feb. 27, was expected to have another surgery to address additional fractures.
Edison’s court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 19 at 12:30 p.m.
