The Barren River Area Development District has announced an initiative to construct 14 tornado shelters at manufacturing facilities across Allen, Barren, Metcalfe, Simpson and Warren counties.
This project aims to bolster community safety and resilience during severe weather events common in southcentral Kentucky.
BRADD is inviting proposals through a Request for Qualifications for the design and cost estimation of these shelters. The project represents a collaboration between BRADD and participating manufacturing facilities, supported by funding from FEMA’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program.
Additional financial contributions will be provided by Kentucky Emergency Management and the local facilities themselves.
The proposed shelters are designed to meet federal safety standards, ensuring life-saving protection during tornadoes.
Proposals must be submitted by Feb. 27, to the BRADD office in Bowling Green, Ky. Interested parties can access bid packets online.
