The public is invited to comment on a proposed rule that would amend special regulation for bicycle and horse riding at Mammoth Cave National Park.

Public comments will be accepted until April 10 at the federal register website.

If approved, the new rule would allow the superintendent to authorize bicycle use on roughly 37 miles of multi-use trails, including those that will be constructed and allow horseback riding on the 5.4-mile Houchin Ferry North/Ollie Ridge Road, according to a national park’s press release.

Two trails — the Maple Springs Connector Trail and the White Oak Trail — will be removed as bicycle-designated trails under the proposed rule while the Mammoth Cave Railroad Bike and Hike Trail will remain on the list, according to information provided by the federal register website.

The Land and Rivers Trail Management Plan, which began in 2022, found these as the preferred alternative, and an assessment found no significant impact to the changes, according to the release.
