Bids for the renovation of a building planned to be the home of the Boys and Girls Club of the Caverns came in over budget once again.

The bids were opened at Cave City City Hall on Feb. 3, and all three proposals came in well over the project’s available budget, according to Mayor Dwayne Hatcher.

The project, intended to transform a downtown building at 110 N. 1st Street into a permanent Boys and Girls Club facility, drew interest from multiple contractors. Based on the official bid tabulation prepared by RBS Design Group, total bid amounts – including listed alternates – ranged from just over $2 million to around $2.2 million, far exceeding the project’s roughly $1.7 million budget.

The bids came from C&C Contracting, LLC of Russellville, Coleman Inc. of Morgantown, and Scott, Murphy and Daniel of Bowling Green. Coleman’s bid was the highest at $2,242,973, while Scott, Murphy and Daniel submitted the lowest at $2,066,648.

Hatcher said the city is now reviewing its options and, at this time, does not plan to send the project back out to bid. This marks the second round of bids, as the first round opened in November 2025 also came back significantly over budget.

Matt Pedigo, a representative with the Barren River Area Development District, which has been assisting with the project, confirmed the situation in a written statement.

“We had bids from three firms, all of which were significantly over budget,” Pedigo said. “Discussions are underway regarding the next steps, and no decisions have been made at this time.”

The renovation project was first proposed in 2021 and has faced several setbacks.
