Barren County’s unemployment percentage dropped by more than 2 percent in December 2025 compared to the previous year.

The county’s unemployment rate for December 2025 was 3.6 percent, compared to the 5.7 percent announced by the Kentucky Center for Statistics in December 2024. All 120 county experienced a drop in unemployment in December 2025, according to the center. This achievement was lauded by Governor Andy Beshear during his Team Kentucky update on Feb. 5.

“This means more of the good jobs we’re creating are being filled and more of our families are bringing home a good paycheck to support their family,” said Gov. Beshear. “These are the numbers we really want to see and the results we want to deliver. I am proud of what we’re accomplishing for our people as we build a better future for every Kentuckian.”

Kentucky’s unemployment rate was a flat 5 percent, and the United States’ rate was 4.1 percent, according to the center.

As always, the county percentages are not seasonally adjusted that removes “sharp fluctuations” caused by seasonal events, such as schools beginning or ending, or holidays, according to the center. Seasonal adjustments eliminate these influences and make it easier to observe statistical trends.

Barren County’s November unemployment percentage was 4.6 percent, according to prior reporting.

Due to the federal government shutdown, which broke the record as the longest in history, unemployment statistics were delayed because of a funding lapse, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor.
