An Indiana man was taken into custody after a brief standoff with Glasgow police on Feb. 1.

Benjamin Haines, who was driving a Chevy Equinox, failed to stop when Glasgow police officer Micah Janes attempted to pull him over on Happy Valley Road, according to a Feb. 2 Glasgow police press release. Haines’ Equinox collided with another vehicle, according to the release. There was then a brief standoff in the Central Center parking lot near the Big Lots store.

Glasgow police officers “deployed less-than-lethal” rounds into Haines’ vehicle to obtain access, since he refused “all officers commands and remained inside the vehicle for an extended period of time,” the release stated. Glasgow Police Public Information Officer Terry Flatt told Glasgow News 1 that Haines was not hit with any rounds. Six rounds were fired, Flatt said.

Haines was arrested and transported to T.J. Samson Community Hospital for medical clearance, according to the release. Haines is currently at the hospital, Flatt said.

Haines, of Bloomington, is charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), first-degree wanton endangerment, no registration plate, no registration receipt, disregarding traffic control device, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to or improper signaling and resisting arrest, according to the release.
