Fish in Barren River Lake will have a new habitat to enjoy.
On Jan. 23, Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife announced that they’ve finished a new fish habitat in Dry Creek at Barren River Lake using 22 reef balls, which were purchased by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and trees that died during the 2025 spring flood.
“Projects like this help turn natural events into opportunities that improve fishing and habitat at Barren River Lake,” Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife stated.
Fish Habitat Biologist Spencer Phillips with the department told Glasgow News 1 that this is the second reef-ball site in Barren River Lake, and he hopes the department will continue to make sites, assuming the corps continues to have the funding and willingness to purchase reef balls.
This N-shaped habitat is on the Barren River Lake Fish Attractor Map, according to the department. Fish attractors come in a variety of styles depending on the availability of resources, and are used to concentrate the fish in a certain area, according to the department.
