The Louisville office of the National Weather Service has placed Barren County in a cold weather advisory.
The advisory begins at midnight tonight and lasts until noon on Jan. 31, according to the weather service. Wind chills as low as -12 are expected during this time, according to the weather service.
“The cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken,” the National Weather Service stated. “Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves…Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.”
A chance of snow flurries is predicted tonight and Saturday with wind chills expected to be 0 and -4 degrees respectively, according to the National Weather Service.
A cold weather advisory serves as a signal to be prepared and are issued “for dangerously cold conditions that are not expected to reach warning criteria,” the weather service stated.
This advisory encompasses much of Kentucky and a lot of the eastern United States.
