Glasgow and Barren County road crews are hopeful that the rising sun will help in their road-clearing efforts.
Glasgow Public Works Superintendent Jim McGowen told Glasgow News 1 that crews are currently out salting and scraping — mostly scraping, he said — roadways in Glasgow. Glasgow road crews will be out clearing the roads until the moisture freezes again, McGowen said.
Some of the main routes are beginning to melt, he added.
Barren County Road Department Supervisor Jamie DeGroft also said crews are out clearing county roads of ice, snow, and in certain areas, fallen trees. He also said some contractors have been assisting county road crews clear the roads, mostly in county subdivisions.
Both McGowen and DeGroft are optimistic that the sun will help melt the ice that DeGroft said was “everywhere.”
Barren County Emergency Management Director Garland Gilliam said not much plowing can be done due to the ice.
Caution is advised if anyone must travel today.
