Cave City is now officially under a state of emergency following winter storm conditions and dangerously low temperatures, according to an order issued Sunday evening by Mayor Dwayne Hatcher.

Hatcher said the extreme cold and ongoing winter weather have created unsafe conditions across the city. As a result, municipal government buildings, including City Hall, will be closed until conditions improve. He also announced that city services will be impacted, with trash pickup delayed until it is safe for crews to resume operations.

Cave City Police Chief Paul Reynolds warned that conditions are expected to get worse as temperatures continue to fall.

“Roads will continue to worsen as temperatures fall,” Reynolds said. “Please ensure if you must travel that precautions are made to have extra blankets and essentials such as food, water, flashlights, jumper cables, and other necessities while traveling.”

Barren County Emergency Management officials have also urged residents to stay home if possible as winter conditions persist.

City officials say updates will be provided as conditions change and services are able to resume.
