Barren County will be under an extreme cold warning from 6 p.m. on Jan. 26 to 10 a.m. on Jan. 27, according to the National Weather Service.
Dangerously cold wind chills are expected for the area during this time, according to the weather service.
“Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside,” the weather service warning stated. “Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.”
The National Weather Service stated the high for Barren County will be 13 degrees with a low around -2 degrees overnight.
At his winter storm update, Governor Andy Beshear said tomorrow morning will be a dangerous time for people outdoors.
“We’re now looking at dangerous wind chills as low as -20 degrees across Kentucky,” Beshear said on Jan. 26. “Tomorrow morning is going to be the worst. It is going to be dangerously cold. Tomorrow morning being outside for just 10 to 30 minutes could result hypothermia or frostbite.”
As a reminder, Bridge Kentucky has a 24-hour warming room available at 1411 N. Race Street in Glasgow.
