Park City Mayor Donna Scavo declared a state of emergency early Sunday, Jan. 25, as winter storm conditions moved through Barren County.
In a statement released, Scavo said the city had not yet experienced damage or power outages but had taken steps to ensure residents could stay safe if conditions worsened
Generators have been readied at both the Lions Club building and the Park City Fire Department to provide warmth and shelter in the event of outages.
Residents who lose heat are encouraged to come to the Lions Club for assistance.
City maintenance crews have also been working to keep roads passable. Scavo said the city’s maintenance worker has been salting roadways and maintaining grades as needed throughout the storm. The Park City Fire Department has met with newer volunteers to review emergency procedures, and the city has checked the local food pantry to ensure supplies are available for residents who may need help.
“All of us at the city and volunteer fire department are keeping up with the situation and are ready to respond as needed,” Scavo said in her statement.
As of Sunday afternoon, neighboring Cave City has not issued a similar declaration. Mayor Dwayne Hatcher has not officially declared a state of emergency, though local officials there continue to monitor weather conditions as the storm progresses. Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd declared a state of emergency earlier.
Residents in both Park City and Cave City communities are urged to use caution while traveling, stay informed through official city channels, and check on neighbors who may be vulnerable to cold temperatures or power disruptions.
