With the upcoming winter weather, Barren County Judge-Executive Jamie Bewley Byrd has sent paperwork to Frankfort to declare a state of emergency on Jan. 24.

Kentucky Governor Andy declared a state of emergency on Jan. 23, according to prior reporting. A declaration allows for the activation of state resources, including Kentucky Emergency Management and the Kentucky National Guard, according to the governor’s office.

Byrd’s declaration comes a day after the National Weather Service projected a 0.25 to a 0.5 inch of ice for Barren County.

The declaration paper can be viewed here. The declaration allows Barren County Emergency Management “to provide such assistance as can be delivered from available local resources and coordinate all agencies…to aid Barren County.”
