Barren County is in a cold weather advisory.

The National Weather Service issued a cold weather advisory for Barren County that begins at 6 p.m. Friday and lasts until Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. This is in addition to the two-day winter storm warning that was issued by the weather service earlier.

This advisory relates to the “very low wind chills” expected for the area, according to the National Weather Service.

“The cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken,” the weather service stated. “Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves.”

As previously reported, Bridge Kentucky has temporarily opened its warming room all day and night to offer people a refuge from the cold. Likewise, Barren River Lake State Resort Park was designated as a warming station by the Kentucky State Parks.
